洛克希德·马丁公司向美国海军正式交付了第一艘濒海战斗舰——“自由”(Freedom LCS1)号。11月15日，该舰在克利夫兰公开展示，迎来了它的首批1000名参观者。
据目前掌握的有限资料得知，“自由”号将选装的舰载武器系统有：1座57毫米/70倍口径舰炮、“拉姆”舰空导弹系统、“网火”反舰导弹、霍尼韦尔公司的MK50型鱼雷。“自由”号还将配备MH-60R/S“骑士鹰”直升机、小型无人飞行器、12.2米长的高速快艇和11米长的小艇。
濒海战斗舰是尺寸小于美国海军的下一代水面战舰，具有在近海浅水水域快速作战的能力，可执行多种反恐任务。
美海军“自由”号滨海战斗舰长115.5米，宽13.1米，吃水3.7米，满载排水量2840吨。它的设计航速为45节，这一性能指标在目前近3000吨级的战舰中是非常罕见的。
